Our History
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art, established in 1932 as Israel's first art museum, holds a prominent position as an influential institution devoted to preserving and exhibiting modern and contemporary art from Israel and around the world. Serving as a crucial catalyst for the arts and culture in Israel, it provides visitors with a diverse and multicultural experience. Located in the heart of the vibrant metropolis, the museum is a must-visit destination for local residents and international crowds.
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is a leading Israeli cultural institution welcoming over 1 MILLION visitors annually and has been ranked 49th on the list of most visited museums in the world according to ArtNewspaper in 2023.
The museum is home to an extraordinary collection of modern and contemporary art by Israeli and International artists. The museum's primary objective is to collect, safeguard, and showcase modern and contemporary artworks by Israeli and international artists. It actively promotes cultural and artistic dialogue, bridging the gap between the past and present, and explores both established artistic works and experimental endeavors.
Today the Museum Complex spans three unique buildings: the Paulson Family Foundation Building and sculpture garden, the Eyal Ofer Building for the Arts, and the Herta and Paul Amir Building. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art mounts 20-25 exhibitions annually throughout the Museum’s three buildings.
In addition to visual arts, the museum offers a dynamic range of experiences that encompass design, architecture, performance, music, film, and theater. By embracing a wide array of artistic disciplines, it strives to create a contemporary and inclusive cultural environment accessible to diverse audiences.
The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is proud home to the largest collection of Israeli art in the world and allows 7 Israeli prizes each year.
An essential aspect of the museum's mission is its educational program, designed to inspire innovative approaches to learning through art and engage a new generation of museum-goers. Through various initiatives, the museum aims to cultivate a sense of appreciation and active participation in the arts. Over 100,000 children, teens, adults, seniors, and soldiers participate annually in programs that serve as a model for museum education worldwide. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art offers scholarships for underprivileged children and teens. It is proud of its Road to Peace program, which promotes tolerance by uniting Jewish and Arab children over a love of art.
With its location, architecture, collections, and exhibition and event program, the Tel Aviv Museum of Art stands as a symbol of modernity and openness in Israel. It serves as a beacon of creativity, reflecting the vibrant and progressive nature of the country.
